Rejoice and Remember

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 15th.  At HOT, we'd like to remind you it's a DAY ON, not a day off.  Take the time to rejoice and remember Dr. King's advancements in his pursuit of civil rights.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a true activist, a true change-maker and a pioneer who's dreams are still being realized today.  In celebration of Dr. King's legacy, the following events are taking place around the sound:  

January 11th

  • Dr. martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at The Sanctuary, 811 5th Avenue (1-2:30pm)

January 12th

  • The annual Community Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. at Mount Zion Baptist Church (12-1:30pm)

January 13th

  • "The Mountaintop" (play) is a drama that imagines what might have happened the evening before Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination at Pantages Theater in Tacoma (7:30pm)

January 15th

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Rally and March includes workshops at Garfield High school, a rally in the gym and a march to Henry M. Jackson Federal Building for a second rally. (11am)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration features speakers, music, dance and poetry at Greater Tacoma Convention Center (11am)
